Shri Naveen Verma , superannuated as Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India after a tenure of more than three years during which he not only coordinated the activities of all Central Ministries and Departments of Government of India but also played an active role in formulating schemes by them for speedier development of North Eastern Region. 

In his  various assignments in the Government of India like  Additional Secretary , Cabinet Secretariat ; Joint Secretary, National Security Council Secretariat; Joint Secretary ( North East ) Ministry of Home Affairs; Director, Department of Department of J&K  and Staff Officer ( Private Secretary) to Shri K C Pant, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission during 1999-2001, he got valuable insights of the issues of the Himalayan region . 

He had joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1982 and was allotted the Bihar cadre. His last assignment in the State was Principal Secretary, Department of Industries, Government of Bihar (2012-14).

He had occasion to mitigate the destruction resulting from uncoordinated development and management of the Himalayan rivers as Secretary, Disaster Management (earlier Department of Relief and Rehabilitation); District Magistrate Kishanganj and Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sitamarhi- both districts bordering Nepal.
